Dear League Representatives,
This letter is on behalf of the Sports Fan Union. Our request is simple. We want sports back. Greedy men have seemingly taken control of every major sports franchise with very few exceptions. We work jobs and then we take on extra jobs just to get by. We have families, we have bills, we have debts.
Owners sitting in their ivory luxury boxes look down on us. They think because they can do it, so can we. It's not always that simple. That's just how it goes, I mean if everyone could make the money you make, you'd have trash building up outside your mansion, and feces backing up in your plumbing. There needs to be people who do the dirty jobs so you can sit back and look down on them in contempt. What next, taking the teams away from the cities and replacing the city that team "belongs" to with the name of whoever owns it?
Personal Seat Licensing is getting more and more ridiculous. You are taking the sport away from the people who need it the most. The people who work the 6-5 jobs. The people who come home, to an apartment too small, a car that just makes it, and a bed that doesn't seem to support their back anymore. The bills pile up, they do what they can to just scrape by. What do these people have to look forward to? Well you know a lot of people escape through sports. It gives them hope, it gives them something to look forward to. I wonder if without sports, how high the suicide rate in America would rise. There is always next year is what people get by on.
So you raise the prices because you are greedy. You say it is business. You say you look at what the market brings in from people who sell their tickets online. Did you ever stop to think about why they are selling their ticket? Did you ever stop to think they are not trying to make a quick extra buck? No you do not care about the fans, you care about the money. People sell tickets for money, FANS sell tickets so they can afford the rest of the season tickets. See it is not about making money for a fan, it is about being able to see the games they want to see. What do the owners do, they raise the price so that the "fans" can't afford the season tickets. The rich get richer and the poor get poorer is so true when it comes to this. Do you think this is actually going to work? You can justify it however you want, but the tickets will still be purchased and be sold again higher than face value. Instead of your everyday fan who works his tail off to afford those season tickets, he will have to pay double the price to see that one game next season. He will do it because he is a true fan. But this true fan will now only be going once or twice a year instead of going in on season tickets with a buddy.
The Players have their union to protect them, but where is the union that protects the fans. Where are our rights. You take a game, and turn it into a business. I understand that to you it is merely an investment, one that you expect a big return, but at what cost are you willing to do this? That's right at the cost of the fan. Not the players who are sitting on millions. Not the owners, not the G.M.'s, not the coaches, but the fans suffer. Well we want our union. We want our rights as fans protected, and if not for us, at least for the sanctity of the game itself.
When the players and owners do not agree, there is a strike. Yet again ruining a season for the fans. The fans will never strike, because we love our teams to the core. Unfortunately you all realize that and use that against us. Is all I am asking as a member of the S.F.U. is to respect us, let us watch our teams in person for a reasonable price, because one day we may just drop the S, turn our backs and leave the F.U.
But then again, what does Scrappy know?
